Whether it’s your favorite season or you are mourning the end of summer, fall is in full swing. You don’t have to be a pumpkin spice lover to appreciate what fall brings to the state. Living in New Jersey means we get to enjoy all four seasons, and autumn is no exception.

Take a look at our list of things to do in New Jersey this fall!

Fall Classics

No matter where you live, fall brings three things to mind: leaves changing color, pumpkins, and apples. Luckily for us in New Jersey, we don’t have to travel far for any of them.

Apple and Pumpkin Picking

Farms and orchards are teeming with the spirit of fall this time of year. Just a short drive from Hoboken or Jersey City, you can get your fill of apples, pumpkins, hayrides, and more. This year, most farms require ticket purchases in advance. Here are a few nearby farms you can check out this year:

Fall Foliage

It’s hard to deny to the beauty of autum during peak weeks of fall foliage. You can take a scenic drive to get in some views, but if you’re ready for more adventure, head to one of these spots:

Tour a Cider Mill

Ralston Cider Mill is open for small group tours by appointment. Visit the last remaining cider mill in New Jersey, whose tour includes the history of the mill, a demonstration of apple cider production, and how grains are ground into flour. Surrounded by parks and woodland preserves, you can make a full day out of your visit!

Fall Themed Train Rides

Delaware River Railroad Excursions offers train ride adventures in the fall. The Great Pumpkin Train is a family-fun event, where children can pick a pumpkin from the patch, take part in two maze games, and visit the Susquehanna Mine. For adult fun, The Winery Train takes you along the scenic Delaware River, followed by a visit to a New Jersey winery, where you receive a guided tour and a wine tasting.

Dine Al Fresco

These days, a simple night out at a restaurant can feel like an escape. Restaurants in Hoboken and Jersey City have expanded outdoor dining for the fall months. Chilly evening temperatures aren’t an issue, as heat lamps keep the streeteries comfortable. Hoboken Girl put together this growing list of restaurants with heat lamps for you to enjoy this fall.

Wineries & Breweries

Vineyards and breweries continue their outdoor gathering spots in pleasant fall weather. Take a day to unwind, meet up with loved ones, and enjoy some local wines or brews. Here are a few you can visit this season:
